Ferréol Mayoly in L'Opinion: what if your biggest digital risk wasn't a cyberattack?

Ferréol Mayoly, President of TAKOMA, has published an opinion piece in L’Opinion. A direct, uncompromising text that identifies a threat most organisations have yet to put a name to.

The risk no one reports

Boards of directors are mapping their cyber vulnerabilities. Executive teams are increasing security budgets. Meanwhile, every week, an expert retires — with no alert, no incident ticket, no line in any risk report.

They take with them what no system has ever indexed: twenty years of operational know-how, the memory of real operational failures, and the informal network that could resolve a critical issue within forty-eight hours. This capital appears on no balance sheet. Its loss only becomes visible eighteen months later, through declining performance indicators that no one links back to the departure of a key expert.

By 2030, one million departures are expected in the French manufacturing sector alone. Each one is an undeclared operational risk.

AI amplifies what exists. If nothing exists, it amplifies the void.

In his opinion piece, Ferréol Mayoly challenges a misconception gaining ground among executive teams: the idea that Artificial Intelligence will solve the problem of knowledge loss. Generative AI does not create knowledge — it leverages knowledge that already exists, provided it is structured and governed. Deploying an AI assistant on fragmented knowledge capital is like building on sand.

The real prerequisite for any digital transformation is securing the knowledge foundation it relies on.

A governance issue, not a support project

Perhaps the strongest conviction in this piece: knowledge management is not a second-tier HR or IT topic. It is a senior leadership decision, on a par with cybersecurity policy or the AI roadmap.

The companies that will get the most out of AI over the next five years will not be those that have invested the most in it. They will be those that first secured the knowledge their AI relies on.
