TAKOMA joins GIFAS: knowledge management serving the aerospace sector

Reading time : 3 minutes

TAKOMA joins GIFAS (Groupement des Industries Françaises Aéronautiques et Spatiales), the French Aerospace Industries Association, combining over 400 companies from aerospace, space and defence. This membership builds on a long-standing commitment: for many years, TAKOMA has been supporting organisations in these sectors with support engineering and with passing on critical knowledge and skills.

GIFAS: a structured strategic industry

Founded in 1908, GIFAS unites the French aerospace and space sector, from major prime contractors and systems integrators through to SMEs, mid-sized companies and innovative start-ups involved in the design, production, marketing and maintenance of civil and military aerospace and space equipment and systems. The organisation is structured around several committees, including the Aero-SME Committee (Comité Aéro-PME), which represents small and medium-sized businesses, and GEADS, which brings together equipment manufacturers, mid-sized companies and start-ups in the sector.

Following its Board meeting in July 2026, GIFAS welcomed ten new companies, taking its total membership to 546. TAKOMA is one of six new companies admitted to the Aero-SME Committee at that meeting.

A sector where knowledge transfer is becoming a matter of sovereignty

The French aerospace and space industry is marked by long development cycles, highly specialised expertise that is often rare and sometimes unique, and industrial sovereignty concerns that place mastery of skills at the heart of performance. This expertise needs to be properly structured before a departure or a change in role can put it at risk: the loss of critical know-how is a direct threat to operational continuity and to companies’ competitiveness.

This is precisely the area in which TAKOMA already operates, structuring knowledge management approaches, capturing organisational expertise, and equipping organisations to pass on skills between generations of engineers and technicians. This involves identifying the critical knowledge held by a limited number of experts, formalising it into usable materials, and setting up lasting mechanisms for sharing it within technical teams.

Why join GIFAS?

By joining GIFAS, TAKOMA confirms its ambition to put its knowledge engineering expertise at the service of France’s strategic industries. Membership gives us direct access to the sector’s collective initiatives and strengthens our credibility with industrial organisations, for whom a detailed understanding of business constraints largely determines access to transformation projects.

For a sector facing generational renewal and growing technological complexity, having a partner able to preserve and structure corporate knowledge over the long term is a real asset.

By joining GIFAS, TAKOMA becomes part of an ecosystem where this issue is taken seriously, contributing its experience in knowledge capital to demanding environments, in support of innovation, competitiveness and the development of the French aerospace and space industry.
